The initial phase of this advanced wastewater treatment plant serves Nanoose First Nation village at Nanoose Bay.  The plant has been designed to be expanded in the future to serve upcoming commercial and residential developments.

Since the treated effluent is ocean discharged into the very sensitive environment of Nanoose Bay, high quality Class A effluent is mandated.

An important objective of the design was to make the plant ‘neighborhood friendly’, inconspicuous, quiet and odorless.

The system consists of fine mechanical drum screen, USBF® filters, sand filters and UV disinfection.

Phase 1 of the plant was built in 2005 and started up on October 20, 2005.

The plant was contracted as a Design-Build-Operate (DBO) contract and it included a development of a training program for two Nanoose First Nation members.

Supervised by ECOfluid, the plant’s day to day operation is provided by the two members.
