Project Profiles

Chengde City WWTP

Project: Municipal
Location: Chengde City, China
Capacity: 15,000 m3/d (4 MGD)
Contract: Bioreactors’ design

Key Features: USBF (Upflow Sludge Blanket Filtration Technology), Modular (3 bioreactor modules 5,000 m3/d (1.3 MGD each), Compact (53 x 60 m, ~70 x 80 ft), Total Phosphorus reduction (0.3 mg/l), Low winter ambient temperature, BOD/TSS/TN 10/10/15 mg/l, Concrete sludge blanket filter clarifier construction

Completed and started up in 2018 the Chengde WWTP is at 15,000 m3/d treatment capacity, to date the largest Upflow Sludge Blanket Filtration (USBF) technology-based plant. The plant serves a segment of Chengde, city situated northeast of Beijing, and the site of Mountain Resort, a vast imperial garden and palace, formerly used by the Qing emperors as summer residence.

ECOfluid’s scope of work included design and engineering of the biological treatment component of the plant. This plant is also the first to incorporate an all-concrete design and construction of the USBF clarifier, which reduced the cost of construction and ensures a long life expectancy of the system.
